I just built a FreeBSD 4.1 gateway = system based on=20 a 486 66, 8mb, 850 Mb harddisk system. It works perfectly, and for me it = was=20 intended to let it run day and night so I never thought about what when = turning=20 it off then.
 
So my question is, is it harmful to = turn it of=20 without using any commands, for example when it just booted and is = showing the=20 login prompt (which is enough for the gateway services i installed = anyway).=20
