I'm frankly not sure the kernel can be compiled without them. inetd is enabled by default in the standard config and has nothing to do with the kernel anyway. You can choose a more paranoid config, but that would be a bad idea for a new user, IMO. That's no this users's problem though. He needs to go ask about network configuration on -questions with something resembling a specific question.
