That's what's happening then, 'make install' is > succeeding because it's using substitute dependencies but pkg_install > fails because the specific packages it expects to see are missing. porteasy (/usr/ports/misc/porteasy) goes to great lengths to determine the actual dependencies of a specific port. You might have better luck trying to hack an update function into porteasy than using pkg_update.
