I don't think I'll port GRUB2. Last time I've tried it, I've spent a lot 
of time just to build it.

Grub Legacy supports both UFS and UFS2. It's not a problem to boot with 
it. I use it for WIndowsXP-FreeBSD-DragonFlyBSD-Linux box.
