Some months ago there was even a more or less serious discussion about HSM for FreeBSD. I can probably dig up the (.ps) doc files for the Digital DLT loaders (as far as they are in unrestricted distribution). If there is any serious interest in the matter please tell. As a sidestep I can probably also borrow a 5 DLT loader (so 50/100 Gb) to do some testing. I _don't_ have the time to do actual coding, but for a reasonable amount of verification work you can have my support. Thoughts?
