/var/log/ppp.log already contains up and down events for me, at least.
And I haven't modified that part of PPP, as far as I can remember.
(If I have, my appologies to those that will be running ppp+pktAlias1.9 - I
can only remember adding extra security patches apart from the things
mentioned in the README file.)
