On the Multia/UDB there is a "Fail Safe Loader" mode. Set a jumper ("FSL") and power it up and it will boot the SRM from a floppy. (probably requires a special format, DEC's ftp site has images and instructions) Then you are up running SRM. Put a "update" floppy in and type "BLAST" and it updates the flash PROM. (Both SRM and (the useless) ARC in the Multia's case.) Then you restore the original jumper setting.
