Here is what you may be looking for. In general all UNIX like based systems do not support the ms/windows type of modem, this includes FBSD. These winmodems are built to be cheap so they are missing the onboard controller and dsp. These functions are performed by the vendor provided modem driver which the user must install into windows before the modem will work. During this year a Lucent winmodem driver for Linux was developed and just ported to FBSD at /usr/ports/comm/ltmdm. You will have to cvsup the comm ports group to get it. Have not read any posts of anybody who has gotten this FBSD Lucent winmodem to work on a desktop PC, so if you get it to work please post results. Any external modem will work with FBSD on com1 or com2. PNP ISA internal modems with onboard controllers and dsp are found by the pnpinfo command and can be made to work following the FAQ at www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/faq/troubleshoot.html#PNP-NOT-FOUN D PNP PCI internal modems are not listed by the pnpinfo command so at the moment this class of modems are unsupported by FBSD. I have a zoom and USR brand spanking new modems which are not read by the pnpinfo command. Hope this is what you wanted Joe -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of john.kiessling@pfpc.com Sent: Monday, December 31, 2001 10:54 AM To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Modem Support I am having a hard time finding anything that talks about modem support.
