From: "Erik Power" To: Cc: Subject: Re: kern/81634: ICH5R SATA driver non-functional, install from CD fails w/ no HDDs found Date: Tue, 31 May 2005 18:11:20 -0400 An additional follow-up, choosing the safe-mode boot option allowed me = to see the HDD and complete the install of 5.4-RELEASE amd64. To further = help your debugging, when attempting the normal boot sequence for = installation, the ATA_IDENTIFY and ATAPI_IDENTIFY commands were timing out on the hard drive and CD drive, respectively. The hard drive is SATA, the CD drive = is on an old parallel ATA interface, and both drives are masters on their respective channels. As long as I choose a safe-mode boot, I have no problems getting the system to run (although the drive performace is seriously degraded). I'll try messing around with atacontrol to see if I = can fix the problem with a forced ata config.
