TCP/IP Illustrated Volume 1 by W. Richard Stevens, published by Addison-Wesley, is probably the best introduction to TCP/IP. When (if? 8-) you've mastered this and if you like reading lots of source code, Vol. 2 walks through the entire BSD4.4 implementation of TCP/IP (the one from which FreeBSD's implementation derives).
