What happens with gstreamer and MP4? Based on this mail from Bastien Nocera: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2003-November/msg00202.html But that's a good question. I just tested builds with gstreamer enabled, instead of xine, and with and without monkeymedia (just in case). Playback fails with "There is no element present to handle the stream's mime type audio/x-m4a." This is using: gstreamer-0.8.1 gstreamer-plugins-0.8.1 nautilus-media-0.8.0_1 Perhaps it's a minor change to GStreamer, or a plugin needs to be written. I'm not sure. This thread seems to indicate that it's not a one line change: http://lists.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2004-March/msg00096.html > > My install of gnome-2.6 does not seem to recognize audio/x-m4a as a MIMEtype, so I also had to edit /usr/local/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml and add the following to it: > > [patch elided] > > This is a good thing to submit to FreeDesktop.
