That's what motivated me. The scanner I wanted has no drivers or software for any OS other than Windows and the Mac. The version of Windows I had on my other machine (NT 4.0) is not supported for this scanner. Nobody could tell me clearly whether or not anything could be done with the scanner on FreeBSD, or how do to it ... the usual speculative cluelessness greeted my questions on that.
