It has been tricky upgrading to 2.1.1 becuase the MAKEFLAGS environment variable that comes from the ports make system has a strange effect on the compiling. It took me ages and some hair-pulling to figure out why it would build manually but not via the port. I have successfully upgraded the port now, and am about to start making Franzs' proposed changes.
