cd /usr/src/release
make release RELEASEDIR=(somewhere with lots of disk space)

Note that you will need to have a local CVS tree set up for this to
work properly... even if you just take your /usr/src bits and check
them in! It's not nice, but it's the cleanest way to build releases,
and that is what is needed.
