Moving the Net News server to a different machine is possible, but would be operationally very traumatic. I've certainly contemplated such a move but put it farther down the list. Points well taken about the SCSI chain (and no, no wide to narrow converters) and any hardware changes. I will make sure no ribbon cables have worked loose and commune with the SCSI controller's firmware the next chance I get to verify proper termination. As far as hardware changes are concerned the one change that I made was to pull out two 64MB memory SIMMs and replace them with two 32MB SIMMs. This change was about three weeks ago and was in response to the frequent crashes. I did change Ethernet cards from a 3Com to the Intel card before I upgraded to 2.2.5-RELEASE but my fading memory tells me that it was at least a month before the upgrade and the system was stable in that interim.
