Seconded. That's what I use also. Just put  two entries for the site you're
calling like the following:

system foo
call-login *
call-password *
phone xxxxxxxx
Time Any
alternate
address nn.nn.nn.nn
port TCP
protocol ig
chat ogin: \L word \P

When  you're  not connected the  first entry  will make  uucico  dial. When
you're   connected the first  call  will fail because   ppp already use the
device and the second one will succed with TCP.
