I tried both recently on my laptop. I tried wide because that's the one suggested by PAO, and for the card in / card out stuff it works better than ISC. But wide doesn't seem to set the default gateway so I'm using ISC which does set the default gateway. The way in which wide works better is that its client dies when you pop out the ethernet card but ISC's client keeps running. This basically means that the ISC version is only good for one card insert. If you pop your card in and out for some reason it won't get config'd the second time around Since I don't pop the cards, ISC works fine for me.
