I up'd again yesterday and this morning, each time doing complete userland and kernel builds and installs. I still have the problem. I edited etc/defaults/make.conf, uncommenting out the COMPAT3X=yes line, and did a complete u&k b&i. I still have the problem. Anyone got clue?
