I use it all the time.

In /etc/uucp/port, insert an entry like this:

port TCP
type tcp

In /etc/uucp/sys:

system NNNNN
time Any

call-login *
call-password *
phone NNNNNNNN
alternate
port TCP
protocol it
address NNNN.NN.NN
chat ogin:--gin \L word \P

This way, "uucico -r1 -S NNNNN" will try first using the serial port then
UUCP/TCP.
