Does this represent anything close to a Java port to FreeBSD? Is it in Apple's best interest to help the FreeBSD-Java team port JDK 1.2.2 and future JDK's? Does anyone think that Apple might voice FreeBSD, or FreeBSD-sympathetic, concerns/issues on the Java executive commitee? Apple has announced that they intend to track FreeBSD code as part of Darwin/OSX. While Apple is free to do whatever they like with FreeBSD code subject to the generous BSD license, just like anyone else, it would seem that one would *hope* that those who benefit most, would be supportive of the community. Apple's comment in Sun's JCP press release: "Apple's commitment to Java technology is strong - Mac OS X will ship with the Java 2 platform built-in, Java technology-based applications will be able to use the modern Aqua interface on Mac OS X, WebObjects 5 for Java will be built using 100 percent pure Java technology, and QuickTime for Java technology brings industry standard audio and video to Java technology-based applications," said Philip Schiller, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
