The strip(1) program is a development tool. It so happens to be installed from the binutils packages, which in RH 7.1 isn't part of the minimal install. > While I personally wouldn't mind installing linux_devtools-7, I'm sure > others--especially if their a little short on bandwidth--would greatly > appreciate moving the rpm that contains 'strip' into linux_base-7. > YMMV, of course. The reverse is also true. Those short on bandwidth probably don't want to have to download binutils just for strip(1). So, I guess there's no right way, meaning that logically there's no wrong way either :-) In short: there will always be cases where installing a large port just for a single (small) program is necessary. So be it. If people don't like it, they can either install RPMs by hand or remove RPMs after installing the port. -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
