That is the config, not a sample. A quick fix is to rename it to something
else or delete it and creat a new one.

Well, if you are not using it right now then uninstall it. Then when you
are ready to use it, install it again. There is a faq at
http://www.webforum.de/mgetty-faq.html and I noticed that there is a
mailing list too. You may get better help from them to set it up properly
