The rtc and vmware2 ports both turn this flag on in the appropriate Makefiles: KMODDEPS= linux This creates a binary file called `linux' which is linked in (?) to the the module at compile time, e.g: ld -Bshareable -o vmmon_up.ko setdef0.o vmmon_up.kld setdef1.o linux By commenting out this flag, the file `linux' isn't used, and the module can then be loaded by kldload.
