I have managed to get access to the machine with the problem hangups described in my previous post and have got the following error output: kernel: pid 67648 (conftest), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Kernel trap 12 with interrupts disabled Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode cpuid = 1; apci id = 01 fault virtual address = 0x70 fault code = supervisor read, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8: 0xc04d20dd stack pointer = 0x10: 0xe7721b58 frame pointer = 0x10: 0xe7721b5c code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xffffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = resume, IOPL = 0; current process = 98905 (sed) trap number = 12 panic: page fault at line 819 in file /usr/src/sys/i386/i386/trap.c cpuid =1; I hope the above helps in tracking down the problem
