I've also noticed for a while (couple of years, probably more -- time-track=
ing
plays tricks with us during the pandemic) that small files become sporadica=
lly
zeroed-out (size remains the same) on ext4fs-formatted Fedora 26 partition
which I use under FreeBSD.  It's rather annoying, would be nice to have this
bug fixed!

$ blkid /dev/linux_lvm/fedora-home
/dev/linux_lvm/fedora-home: UUID=3D[...] TYPE=3D"ext4"
