There are several problems with the FS layer, but I'm more willing to
bet you have a DOSFS filesystem mounted... news.cdrom.com (which used
to run some mutant system about 2.0.5 time) had a 9 Gb FS which the
then admin didn't think to take out of the security scans... so the
news filesystem had expire AND a find running on it at the same
time. That machine was rock stable.
