There are several reasons a stable port may be removed: 1. Licensing 2. source is no longer available and no one willing to host the last version of the sources 3. Port Maintainer has abandoned the port and no one is willing to keep the port maintained (i.e stage support) In this case, the port maintainer asked: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2011-October/070886.html On Sun, Oct 16, 2011 at 9:00 PM, Glen Barber wrote: > Hi, > > As it stands now, the mail/demime port has no "upstream", and > development seems to have stopped at least 2 years ago. > > Does anyone use this? > > If so, would someone like to _become_ "upstream" and revive this piece > of software? > > Otherwise, I'll mark this port as deprecated in 1 week and have it > scheduled for removal 1 month afterwards. > > Thanks. > > -- > Glen Barber > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" The answers to this message advised that there were alternatives to demime. -- DISCLAIMER: No electrons were maimed while sending this message.
