The 4 CDs are:

1.  Installation
2.  Packages
3.  Full Expanded Source
4.  Live File system

or something like that. :-)  The ports tree itself is only 3mb compressed,
so you could keep it tarred util you need it.  Now the packages tree is a
different matter.
