Ok, could you provide details on which version of FreeBSD and X you are currently running? The output of "dmesg" would be a good start, but other information such as the type of video card and video settings (resolution, colour depth etc) would be helpful. If you haven't already done so, it would be worthwhile trying a newer FreeBSD release to see if the problem is still present there.
