During the proceedings, it became very clear that only a small number of attendees have taken the time to perform any substantial research on the topic. None of the ideas being discussed are new; they've all been looked at many, many years ago. If we're going to maintain our reputation for careful implementation of time-tested ideas and techniques, we need to avail ourselves of the work of others, and that means hunting down and reading the large volume of research output on the topic. I know that Terry has a reading list, and I'm sure that others do as well. I think it'd be to our great advantage to have these lists distributed as well as a central repository of papers and references created so that we pull ourselves past the discussing of half-baked ideas and avoid several years worth of wheel reinvention. -- \\ Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. \\ Mike Smith \\ Tell him he should learn how to fish himself, \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ and he'll hate you for a lifetime. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-arch" in the body of the message
