I didn't try it with a tape changer attached to the raid card, however, so I wonder what would happen in your case if you disconnected your tape changer. Also when you boot sysinstall, can you hit the ScollLock key and then the arrow keys to scroll back to the boot messages and see if any of the scsi devices on the raid card were probed?
