Nothing. Well, maybe you forgot to mention which versions of FreeBSD and Vinum you're using. It's a bug, not a feature. IIRC this bug only occurred in -CURRENT and -STABLE, so you shouldn't be reporting it here. Get hold of a new version and it should work.
