These "Newer" chips are still based on the x86 architecture, so yes 
those chips are fine.

I have a very simple and embarassingly stupid question.

I saw something about how FreeBSD works on x86 processors, and I
wondered if this includes the 'newer' chips, such as Intel's various 
MMX
and Pentium II chips.
