Do you have shell access to a machine outside your network? You could always use your same telnet command from above to test if your port forwarding is working. If you get "Connection refused," then your port forward is broken. Once your port forward is working, you'll probably need the `-d' option to the auth service to work around the NAT source port problem I mumbled about above.
