I had another try at reproducing the problem, but I still can't.

Can you show the output of

mount -v

And also, stop cron with service cron stop, then try running

/usr/sbin/cron -x load,pars,misc,ext

(when it stops producing output, you can control-C it, and then start the
service again)

and show the output of that.
