Subject: Install fail after getting files, before full config

Hi all

I am a newbie to freebsd and this list, but I know a little about SCO
unix.

Last night before I left work I started a freebsd 2.1.0 install.

I selected an X user install.

When I came in this morning, all the packages bar a couple had been
fetched and the system had started asking me further config questions.

However, in the middle of the process the X system tried to start and
hung the system during the X -probeonly.

I had to reset and then the system booted but with none of the config
info I had entered, ie no network card, no host name, etc etc.

What can I do to rectify this? I've tried usimg the config after
install option on the boot disk, but it does not write anything to
disk.

Will I have to go through everything manually? I have manually edited
the /etc/sysconfig file, but the system complains about
demo1.pcm.co.za (hostname I manually put into sysconfig) does not
exist.

If I do a route add default (my own IP address) it fails.

It seems that the NE2000 card is not configured at all. How do I
assign the IP address and the subnet mask to the NE2000? In SCO I
would use netconfig. What is FreeBSD's equivalent?

'Scuse all the questions on my first post, but I guess that's when
they mostly come up...
 TIA
