I rarely see hangs when accessing a ZFS file system. As an example I was watching a movie in a ZFS pool yesterday with vlc when it just stopped. top showed that vlc was waiting on umtxn for a mutex and it never left that state. I could kill it, however. After that I was able to watch a movie from the same ZFS pool without a problem. Since I had X running I couldn't easily get into ddb. I've also seen other apparently ZFS-related hangs in the past, but I can't remember the details any more. I do remember that one hang was so bad that I had to reset the box to recover. --- Gary Jennejohn
