I don't think that this is an FreeBSD related issue as I just deleted some discs under 5.4 and 6.0 without trouble. Probably it's just a compatibility problem between your drive and the CD-RW. "Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation" makes decent CD-RWs. Get one of those and see if the problem remains.
