They put in place what they thought would suffice to inform people enough to keep newbies from running it. IMHO, it hasn't worked because it relied on people READING, which if they come from the Microsuk world, they don't (I'm sure they CAN, they just DON'T). I certainly agree with the core team's desire for greater exposure/testing. But my God, we've been deluged with newbies running it and asking questions so basic, as to prove they shouldn't be running it at all!! As Jonathan pointed out in a recent post, the link on www.freebsd.org points to 3.0R boot floppies. I hope someone changes that back to 2.2.7. The web site, IMHO, should be configured to give you the most stable, best supported, version unless you're able to READ enough to find 3.0R. If it's slightly difficult to find, and we push people towards 2.2.7, we'll be in better shape. Unix systems measure "uptime" in years, Winblows measures it in minutes.
