Subject: Unmaintained/Unsupported Hardware in 3.1-R?

I've used a SoundBlaster 16 SCSI with FreeBSD for years - (since
2.0.5), now it doesn't work with 3.1-R. It's listed under
"Unmaintained drivers".
It's the "Adaptec AIC-6260 and AIC-6360 based boards, which includes
the AHA-152x and SoundBlaster SCSI cards"
Ok, I know they're slow for hard drives, but they're fast enough for
CDROMs.
(Including them in the kernel conf yields "...file not found...".) :(

Next: I just had a Compaq Deskpro XL 560 donated here.
(Pentium 60 - 32 MB ... I know, slow again, but still capable.)
The SCSI controller is the "amd0" - (AMD 53c974) and again it's not
supported now in 3.1-R, which means No Hard Drive & No CDROM. :(
This was supported in 2.2.8

And, the built in network interface in this machine is an AMD
PCnet/PCI (79c970 & 53c974 or 79c974). Guess What? It was supported
in 2.2.8 but it's Not supported in 3.1-R. :(
---
Am I missing something simple here?
Are these "legacy" devices being discarded by FreeBSD?
Is (re)support for these devices forthcoming? :)
What can I do to get these working with 3.1? Anything?

I Could just use 2.2.8, or Linux, or Winxxx..., no, I Want another 3.1
box!

Is this going to be a simple re-write? I'll do it for all if I can.
Somebody wanna shed some light and steer me in the right direction?
Is there some reason these Won't work in 3.1?
