Can we close the PR? :-) I suppose you could close the PR. Would it still be a good idea to have a statically linked mt(1) for users of tar and cpio? If this mode of backup/recovery is not supported or recommended, lets close the PR. Mind you, it's not all that difficult to build a static mt, so anyone deviating from the standard could be prepared to do so. Anyhow, just a couple of extra thouhts.
