Hi!

I purchased and installed a new PCI motherboard on the weekend for
my computer. The new motherboard (A Hippo15, Award BIOS, UMC chipset,
AMD4/120 CPU) has intergrated serial, parallel & IDE controllers.

At boot up I get the message that 16550A's are detected on both
sio0 and sio1. So far so good.

After X11 comes up I can use my mouse on sio0 with no problems.

I can even fire up a PPP connection to my ISP using sio1
and transfer files without any apparent problems.

The problem arises when I try to start a UUCP transfer to my news
and mail host. According to the log files the connection is setup
and a transfer is started but it is aborted after several minutes
with an error to the effect 'Too many I protocol errors'. This
happens whilst it is downloading the first news batch.

I have uncommented out the modem line in /etc/rc.serial and checked
that RTS/CTS handshacking is set on the serial port. I have also
checked that the HW handshake is set on the modem (as well as fixed
modem<->serial port speed).

This machine has been happily running UUCP for several years now, the
only difference being the upgrade of the serial ports.

Appreciate any ideas,

Regards, Mark

PS Please CC: any replies to this e-mail address. My usual list
subscription lies behind the UUCP connection so I won't see your
reply - I'm at work now so this should work...
