The protocol uses port 22, the same port SSH uses. When you run it from the command line, you may need to add the option flag -o with the parameter User. For example: sftp -o User= With Filezilla, you can view a remote file's permission by selecting the file, right-clicking it an choosing "File permissions...".  If your protocol is SFTP, you'll be able to see the exact file permissions, which is another reason to prefer SFTP over FTP.
