I'm installing on a 486/DX4 16MB mem, onto the *second* SCSI (ST31230N, 1050MB). I'm using and Adaptec 1542 scsi controller. The geometry for the disk is supposed to be 3992/5/103 (fbsd disagrees.. I used it anyway and I've tried it using what it wants). Problem: The installation seems to go through fine but I have no way to boot the system. The install never installs the MBR Boot manager it promises and the install boot floppie won't take "sd(1,a)/kernel" .. well it does but it starts scrolling some crap. The "troubles" doc said something about using "(F)disk to install the (B)oot record on the first disk then booting the second manually" but never mentions where to give these commands or where the "(F)disk partition editor" is to be found. ... hmm... details.. IN the partition thingie, in the install, I selected the second scsi disk, created partions and requested the root partition be bootable.. (anticipating question 'well did you do this?'). I've been a unix admin for 8 years for about 4 different *nixs.. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? y - JoeB |:=-@-=:|------|:=-@-=:|------|:=-@-=:|------|:=-@-=:| Joe Beiter Hargray Telephone Company jwb@hargray.com
