If you wanted to do this The "Correct" Way, you might be better off rewriting the CPU identification code in locore.s to a more general, better abstracted design, so you could add CPU types easily, rather than making a longer and longer string of special case code. You'd also want to start with an identification mechanism for all current CPU types.
