FreeBSD boots fine. Builds the system REALLY fast! Problems: X11 - I think that when I run 1400x1050, I am right on the edge. It may require a special Modeline to make the display stable. X starts fine. Looks GREAT! The problems start when I turn off the display by Fn-F3, or power-management. When the screen is turned back on, it looses sync and I see weird things that look like a doubled horizontal image (sort of). If I kill X, the sc display is also messed up. I can see the early part of a line (but not quite the beginning) about half way across the screen. Vertical bands of the screen repeat several times across the screen. I am currently not specifying any Modeline. One I found in the archives for 60 Hz vertical refresh worked no better. It seems to take a re-boot to make it right! Even a stop and restart of X does not help. This is a serious problem! Sound - Be sure to set 'options PCI_ENABLE_IO_MODES' in your kernel. Works for Realplayer, but does not play anything from Gnome. No login or other sound. If I have esound running, RealPlayer finds the device in use and fails. This is identical to the operation of the ICH2 audio on my Dell desktop. I really don't have a clue what is happening here, but I'd love to fix it. It might be easier if I really understood how it should work. Modem - No luck. See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=37623 for details. This looks like it's becoming a popular modem since it's part of the main chipset from Intel. APM - No real testing, but the basics (suspend/resume and power-off) seem to work fine. Other than that, it looks good! R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O.
