Just usb problems. Am I right? I'm not quite sure what you mean, but USB causes the kernel to hang on both the BigSur prototype and Tiger machines. I think this is specific to the UHCI host controller. For this reason 5.0-RC1 and 5.0-RC2 don't have USB support in the kernel. 5.0-RELEASE is due in Januray (RC=Release Candidates), so we have a couple of weeks to try to find the cause and fix it in time for 5.0-RELEASE. Unless we can track it down we probably want to disable support for at least the UHCI controller. That way one can at least boot and install with a serial console. A kernel that hangs during boot is useless in all cases. > Then what difference about > hp zx1 and intel e8870 chipset in ia64 for freebsd. At this time the only difference is that the zx1 does not have ISA emulation. From a chipset point of view, FreeBSD does not take full advantage of the abilities of the chipset yet. > Or this problem > is solved by efi? Am I right? EFI doesn't really play a role. It's mostly ACPI, SAL and PAL that have well-defined behaviour and create the necessary abstraction. -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message
