Do you have /compat/osf1/svc.conf? Extracting the Compaq netscape tarball should produce this file. Does it have a line: hosts=local,bind,yp Again, that should be there by default. And do you have an /etc/resolv.conf & is it formatted correctly? That should be all you need.
