What exactly does this have to do with FreeBSD?  Anyhow, ignoring that,
are you _sure_ that it's an authorization problem?  Why?  In any case
you should double check the following settings on your mail client:

  * (These are case sensitive)
  * Username
  * Password

  * (This is not)
  * Mail server name

Then maybe try this:
  * Telnet to your.mailserver.com 110
  * user <your username>
  * pass <your password>

And see what happens.
