The ad(4) devices are the new ones that appeared in 4.0. If you are doing a fresh install of FreeBSD 4.x, there is no need to use the wd drivers. Use ad. ad0 by default will be the master on the primary IDE controller. ad1 will be the slave on the primary controller. ad2 is the master on the secondary controller, and ad3 is the slave. -- Crist J.
